Polar Bear Plunge
By: Michael McGonigle
Overall this year we had a great turn out of about 50 students show up to the plunge! The plunge itself raised more than $750,000 for Special Olympics and DMA should be proud to have contributed to that, great job Seahawks! Check out pictures in the gallery section under "more..."

Got Pride?
DMA's Spirit Week is set to begin on October 15th. The Student Council, run by Reid Bidgood and Danielle Checci, has finally revealed the plans for Spirit Week.
On Tuesday, cadets will show their school spirit by wearing red, white and blue for Patriotic Day. The more creative you get the better. Use face paint, nail polish, hair dye and apparel to show your pride in the USA and in DMA. On Thursday, cadets will partake in Color Wars. Each grade level is given a color and is pitted against the others in an effort to show who has the most school spirit. The Freshman will be sporting green, the Sophomore class will be decked out in pink, the Juniors will be wearing purple, and the Senior class, well you won't really to be able to see them in all their black and camouflage getup. The faculty and staff will be donning blue and gold to show their pride. Friday is DMA Spirit Wear Day. Wear anything that shows how much pride you have in your school. The Annual Fall Sports Pep-Rally will also be held on Friday. SNN is looking forward to seeing how much pride you have in your school. |

9-11 Ceremony: DMA Promises to Never Forget
by: Lawrence McNutt
On September 11th, 2013 the cadets at DMA honored those who lost their lives during the attack on the World Trade Centers in 2001. The tradition, as old as the school itself, is a promise to never forget all the men and women who died during the horrific attack in New York twelve years ago.
The first two successful planes to hit the World Trade Center in New York, caused catastrophic fear and confusion into people across the country. An American Airline Boeing 767 crashed into the 80th floor of one tower, quickly followed by a second Boeing 767 that hit the 60th floor of the second tower. A third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and a fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Over 3,000 people were killed during the attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., including more than 400 police officers and firefighters. The ceremony at DMA remembering the tragic event went successfully. Delaware's Governor, Jack Markell, and DMA's Commadant, Anthony Pullela, started the ceremony with touching speeches. Then, several students and staff spoke about what it means to be free. The ceremony finished with a silent walk around the building where cadets fell into formation creating the numbers "9-11." A cannon was fired and two cadets played taps from the rooftop. The ceremony was professional, moving and a somber reminder of all the lives lost. |

A New School Year Means New Faces
By: Lawrence McNutt
The Delaware Military Academy opened its doors to students on September 3rd for the beginning of its eleventh year. Every year always brings over a hundred new Freshman faces to the school. This year was no different. 158 new Freshman began their high school career at DMA this year. In addition to the new Freshman at the school, the students have noticed several new teachers and staff members.
Upon entering the Main Office you will now see the smiling face of Mrs. Taylor. If you haven't seen her in the office, then you have heard her over the intercom dismissing cadets. She came to DMA from Pencader, bringing with her many years of experience and knowledge. She is extremely polite and helpful. DMA is glad to have her on board.
The science department lost Ms.Yaeger over the summer, but it welcomed Dr. Segall. Dr.Segall was a college professor that decided to come to DMA to teach chemistry. Still adjusting to teaching juniors, Dr.Segall is doing a great job of composing his classes. Thank you Dr.Segall for doing such a fantastic job. Mr. Gatson is now the new Director of Finance and Human Resources. As he states, "Joining DMA has been a great career move for me." Mr. Caskey is the new historical economics teacher. He feels as though it has been a great start this year and that his students are learning a lot this year. Ms. Rodgers is the new chorus teacher doing a fabulous job in training our chorus students how to use the best of their voices. Ms.Muller is the new lunch lady replacing last years lunch supervisor, and is doing a fabulous job. It looks like it's going to be a great year.
